About the
Artist
Raised by Argentine parents in a small town in Vermont, Michael
Bonfigli's interest in Latin culture began with a family trip to
Buenos Aires when he was 10. Bonfigli was drawn to both the intensity
of life in Buenos Aires and his uncle's own photographs of the area.
After studying
in Barcelona during college, Bonfigli joined the Peace Corps
to work with the Miskito Indians on the Northern Coast of Honduras.
It was
there that he became specifically interested in documentary photography.
After the Peace Corps, he pursued a career in education; however,
photography remained a constant pursuit. In 1997, Bonfigli decided
to
pursue photography as a career.
Michael's personal
work has continued to focus on Latin American culture. He
is currently working on a project documenting both the current upheaval
and
the general culture of youth in Argentina.
